I was eyeing up a Sims 3 EP on the Steam summer sale last night, and I was poking around the internet and it seemed like I could buy the game through Steam and it would give me a CD key that I could then redeem through Origin (where I have the rest of my Sims 3 games). However, I couldn't find anything more recent than about a year ago confirming this fact. But alas, it was only on sale for 4 more hours and I really wanted to go to sleep so I just bought the EP (and I had to buy the base game on Steam too so that I could get the DLC, but hey, it was only $7). I looked in my Steam library after that, and when I right click on the game it does not give me the option of 'View CD key' (which some games do). Can anyone confirm/deny if it is still possible to buy games on steam and redeem them on Origin? Posting for others' reference in the future - the answer (as of 6/27/14) is yes! All you need to do is start downloading the game in Steam, and as soon as the download begins, then the 'View CD Key' option will show up when you right-click the game in your Steam library.

You can cancel the download after this. Copy and paste your new CD key into Origin and download/install through there. FYI, though, for those who want to buy EPs (aka 'DLC'. Ugh) on Steam, you do need to buy the base game first otherwise Steam will not let you buy the EP/SP.
